The Toronto Maple Leafs have officially called up Kyle Clifford amongst others ahead of the sixth clash against the Boston Bruins.

As the Leafs prepare to face elimination for the second straight game, general manager Brad Treliving made a massive roster decision. He called up nine players from the Marlies, a few days after the AHL affiliate got eliminated from the playoffs by the Belleville Senators.

Dennis Hildeby, Kyle Clifford, Topi Niemela, Marshall Rifai, Maxime Lajoie, Alex Steeves, Mikko Kokkonen, Dylan Gambrell and Nick Abruzzese's names have officially appeared on the Maple Leafs' roster.

However, don't expect any of these players to take part in a game with the Leafs in the playoffs. Unless there's more injuries, they should all remain sidelined for the rest of the playoffs.

It is actually common to see NHL teams call up players from the AHL who have two-way contracts after their team gets eliminated.

"The Marlies are done so the Leafs recalled AHL players to be extras, as every playoff team does when their affiliate is eliminated.

Kyle Clifford was 1 of 9 guys called up. He's not going to play. It's just bait if anyone singles out his recall"

This isn't anything. It's common for teams to call up their entire roster of NHL contracted players when the minor-league team is done.

Details and updates will follow.
