John Tavares' family seen supporting Auston Matthews with lovely gesture

John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs has finally passed on his legacy of wearing the "C" on his jersey to Auston Matthews, who will now become the 26th captain in franchise history as well as the first American born player to do so.

Many people of importance were in attendance at this ceremony, including teammates Mitch Marner and Morgan Reilly, as well as Leafs alumni Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour. The thing that caught everyone's attention however, was the fact that John Tavares' kids were sitting in the front row and all had Auston Matthews jerseys on.

The amount of support that Auston Matthews is currently receiving must be an amazing feeling for him. He must definitely feel like things are starting off right, and fans can only hope that translates into on-ice success for the year ahead.

Fans of the Leafs will get to see their new captain with their own eyes when the Leafs take to home ice for the first time on October 12th against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Auston Matthews finished last season with 107 points and nearly hit 70 goals when he scored 69. Perhaps the "C" on his jersey gets him into that 70 category next season.
