Is Seth Jones Linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs?

There's a strong belief that the Toronto Maple Leafs will make some major offseason changes and break up the core four. Names are already running rampant, but none other than Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones is the first name as the potential.

Jones is currently entering his third year of an eight-year contract worth $9.5 million annually. Additionally, Jones' contract carries a full no-movement clause throughout the entire contract.

The Blackhawks' alternate captain turns 30 in October, he will be 36 when the deal is done and has already shown some significant signs of regressing rather than progressing.



Due to a $5 million signing bonus once a year starting July 1, 2023, this will make the contract even less lucrative to bring in.


The issue with the Leafs' defence is their lack of a puck-moving defenseman, Chicago is on the up-and-coming right now and could use a veteran winger like Mitch Marner. This keeps the money relatively even going both ways and Chicago brings in another scoring winger to play with Connor Bedard.

Seth Jones is currently playing for Team USA at the 2024 IIHF Mens World Championship in Czechia.


If Brad Treliving can make this move work, then he will look brilliant in the long run. With the salary cap due to begin a meteoric rise, Seth Jones might be the answer Leafs fans don't want, but will appreciate in due time.
