Fans are blasting Mitch Marner for poor effort in game 2
Fans are blasting the Toronto Maple Leafs' star Mitch Marner for a lack of effort in game 2 of the series against the Boston Bruins.
While the Maple Leafs ended up winning 3-2 to tie the series, it wasn't because of Mitch Marner.
In two games, Marner scored no points and has a -1 goal differential. This is a major discrepancy from last year's first round, where he led his team with a whopping 11 points in six games against the Lightning.
Marner's lack of effort was spotted by many fans and experts in a particular sequence.
In a race for the puck, he deliberately slowed down and let Bruins' defenseman Charlie McAvoy reach it, possibly to avoid a hit.

The ole bailout but make it look like you're competing. Classic. I used to do this myself from time to time. Not trying to hate on the fella Mitchie Sheets $$ but you ain't gonna win anything playing with a parachute on your back at this time of year that's just faxx.

This is about as weak of a play as you can see by a star player in a playoffs game. Absolutely wild effort by Marner #LeafsForever #NHLBruins
Marner will need to do a lot more if he wants to help his team reach the second round.
