Sheng Peng, citing Pierre LeBrun, says the San Jose Sharks could flip Kiefer Sherwood if extension talks stall.
San Jose just paid up to get him, landing Sherwood from the Vancouver Canucks on January 19.
The cost was two second-round picks, in 2026 and 2027, plus defenseman Cole Clayton.
Sherwood wasn't a throw-in in Vancouver, he led the Canucks with 17 goals in 44 games.
He also brings that straight-line, playoff-style edge, and the hit totals back it up.
He arrived banged up, and he's only played two games in teal so far.
That timing matters, because San Jose has dropped five straight and slid five points out of a wild card spot.
LeBrun's nugget is basically a ticking clock: sign him soon, or move him by March 6.
Kiefer Sherwood puts San Jose Sharks in a bind
Sharks fans can feel the whiplash here, two games in and we're already talking about a sell-off.
The reported extension number is about $30 million total, and that's where the sticker shock hits.
If you're Mike Grier, flipping him is the clean way to recover your seconds, or even chase a late first.
For contenders, Sherwood at $1.5 million cap hit is the exact kind of deadline winger you tuck into a third line.
And yes, the Canucks are an obvious call, he just came from there, and a reunion for a familiar bottom-six jolt is easy to picture.
Either way, the next weekend back-to-back is going to tell us if San Jose pushes forward, or turns Sherwood into pure futures again.
