This evening a new statement from Hockey Canada GM Doug Armstrong has given potential hope to Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner's Olympic dreams. The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are just a couple of months away and for the first time in over a decade NHL players will be allowed to play at the event. Leading up to the Olympic Games many countries including Canada have named their tryout camp rosters. To the surprise of many, when Canada named their camp roster it featured only three goalies leading many to assume the spots were already claimed by Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill, and Samuel Montembeault.

Loading from Twitter ...

However, a new statement from Hockey Canada and current St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong has confirmed that this is not the case and there is still open competition involving goaltenders not on the camp roster.
Stuart Skinner's Olympic Dreams Remain Alive After Latest Statement From Hockey Canada GM
During a new interview, Armstrong confirmed he has spoken to at least 9 goaltenders about the opportunity to represent Canada at the Olympic Games. He mentions that he did not want to overcrowd the summer camp with too many goalies which led to only three invites but that the potential for another goalie to be selected is on the table. I've talked to probably six goalies that weren't the three [named] and said that that's probably our most competitive spot, our most open spot. It just didn't feel right bringing that large number of goalies to the camp, so we just went with the three, but I've talked to the other goalies and told them that it's an open competition to play well and make our decisions hard in January. It's open competition for that goaltending position. - Doug Armstrong While Skinner is an unlikely candidate to represent Canada at the Olympics due to his current reputation around the league a hot start with the Edmonton Oilers could change everything. As the 2026 Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy approach, we will bring all of the latest updates on Skinner and other Oilers Olympic hopes.
