Tonight, a new report has suggested that Connor McDavid could request a trade if the Edmonton Oilers fail to make another deep playoff run.

The Edmonton Oilers continue to push towards a Stanley Cup Playoff spot, but are in danger of missing the playoffs after the recent injury to Leon Draisaitl.
With just a four-point cushion over the first team out in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Oilers are the closest they have been in a long time to missing the playoffs altogether.
Even if they sneak into the playoffs, this team does not have the feel of one making a deep run unless McDavid and Draisaitl can find another level and are both healthy.
Now, a new report from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun has indicated that if the Oilers take a step back and are not true contenders this season, McDavid could request a trade.

Pierre LeBrun suggests Connor McDavid could suggest a trade before he becomes a free agent

In a new segment on The Sick Podcast, LeBrun spoke about McDavid's future in Edmonton.
While McDavid is set to begin a new contract at the end of this season for two more years, LeBrun believes this season with the Oilers could be enough for McDavid to consider a trade.
I think people misunderstood when he signed a two-year extension, believing he was certainly in Edmonton for two seasons. Hold on here a second, at least in the summer of 2027, for sure, the plan is for McDavid and his agent, Judd Moldaver, to huddle with Oilers management and discuss whether the Oilers are still a contender. If not, then the summer of 2027 is when we start thinking about an exit.

This admission from LeBrun seems to clearly state that if the Oilers do not turn things around and continue making deep playoff runs, McDavid and his agent could see themselves out in short order.
Luckily, it seems that next offseason is a more likely target for these discussions, meaning that Stan Bowman has one more offseason to prove to McDavid that Edmonton is the place for him.
As more information is provided on McDavid's future in Edmonton, we will pass the latest details along to you.
