Edmonton Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie spoke for the first time since his call-up and opened up about his difficult and emotional road to the NHL.
Roby Jarventie's professional hockey career began on a high note after being selected 33rd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
After being selected Jarventie continued his steady rise to the NHL that was slowed at times by injury before making his NHL debut in 2023-24.
However, at that point things would take a downward turn as in that season he played just 29 games due to a significant right knee injury.
That offseason, Jarventie was dealt to the Oilers where he would play just two games in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors before going down again this time with a left knee injury.
Despite all of the frustrations and setbacks Jarventie never gave up and is now back to competing in the NHL and now he spoke about the ups and downs of his health struggles.
Roby Jarventie shares emotional details of injury problems as he returns to the NHL
Jarventie first recalled his time with Ottawa where he has the instant success followed by injuries which ruined his tenure with the Sens.
I remember I had a pretty good camp. I almost made a team out of camp, then I was probably the last one to get sent down. I got my call-up pretty early, then had a couple of injuries.
Then since arriving in Edmonton Jarventie admits he once again was unsure if he would even be able to play again but kept pushing forward and is just happy to be back on the ice and in the NHL.
There were definitely times I didn't know if I was going to be able to play hockey again. So as I said, I'm grateful for every day I'm able to do this.
With his new found gratitude, Jarventie's confidence is growing as he gets more comfortable in his body after those terrible knee injuries.
I feel like as the year has gone on, I've kind of got my legs underneath me again. I feel more confident skating and making plays, and it's elevated my game.
Still only 23-years-old, Jarventie has been electric at the AHL level tallying 36 points in 52 games for the Condors so far this season before earning the call-up.
Jarventie will now be thrown right into the fire as the Oilers continue to chase down a Stanley Cup Playoff spot now without star forward Leon Draisaitl.
Jarventie's first opportunity to draw into the lineup will be tomorrow night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
