Connor Ingram is in the starter’s crease tonight, and for a team craving stability, that is the best news we could have asked for.
We finally have clarity in net. And it feels good.
The morning skate confirmed what many of us hoped: Connor Ingram (Drafted Round 3, #88 overall by Tampa Bay) leads the Oilers out against the Sharks.
This isn't just a "scheduled start." It is a statement.
Since arriving from Utah, Ingram has transformed from a depth option into a genuine stabilizer.
He isn't the biggest goalie at 6'1", but his positioning has been quiet, calm, and exactly what this chaotic season needed.
He battles. He tracks pucks.
He gives the guys in front of him a chance to breathe.
Ingram is rewriting his story in Edmonton
But while the crease is settled, the blue line is holding its breath.
Mattias Ekholm (Drafted Round 4, #102 overall by Nashville) is officially a game-time decision.
That is the terrifying part.
Ekholm is the 6'5" mountain that makes this defense work.
He eats minutes. He clears the porch. He lets the skill guys fly.
Seeing him skate this morning was promising, but until he takes a shift, the nerves won't go away.
If he can't go, it’s a massive hole to fill.
On the bright side? The forward group remains untouched.
"No forward changes" means the coaching staff finally likes the chemistry we are seeing.
Consistency up front. A battler in net.
Now we just pray the "Swedish Viking" is ready to patrol the blue line.
Because if Ekholm plays, this team looks dangerous.
If he doesn't, Ingram might have to steal one.
And frankly? I wouldn't bet against him right now.
