Edmonton Oilers' Jeff Skinner is going to break the all-time NHL record tonight by being the player who has played the most regular-season games before the playoffs.

After 15 seasons and 1,078 regular-season contests in the NHL, Jeff Skinner is finally set to debut in the playoffs. The 32-year-old Edmonton Oilers winger will hit the ice Monday evening in his first contest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
With his inaugural game, Skinner will break the NHL record for games played before a playoff debut, surpassing Ron Hainsey's previous record of 907 games.
"For me coming here, my first year here, I knew we had a pretty good team, and I was trying to be a part of it," Skinner told NHL.com on Sunday. "It's a good feeling. You kind of work towards it all year, and we worked together towards it and now we try to get rolling."
Hainsey went on to capture the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in his first playoff appearance in 2017.
Skinner was signed by the Oilers this season to a one-year, $3 million deal after being bought out of his contract by the Buffalo Sabres.
He contributed 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games as Edmonton returned to the playoffs following a run to last year's Stanley Cup Final.
Selected seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2010 NHL Draft, Skinner started directly in the league as a rookie, participating in all 82 games his first year.

Skinner is a former 40-goal scorer

Although he steadily produced, posting five 30-goal seasons and a career-high 40 goals with Buffalo during the 2018-19 season, postseason chances always evaded him.
The Hurricanes missed the playoffs in all eight of Skinner's years there, and the Sabres missed in all six that he played with them.
At last, after all those years of anticipation, Skinner will have his opportunity at playoff hockey, as he is set to play on Edmonton's third line between Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kasperi Kapanen.
