NHL legend Patrick Roy named as contender for Edmonton Oilers head coaching gig

Tonight, a new report from NHL analyst Jim Matheson has suggested that legendary NHL goaltender Patrick Roy could be considered for the Edmonton Oilers head coaching job.
The Edmonton Oilers failed to make it out of the first round in what many including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl considered a failed season.
As a result of the failures in the playoffs, GM Stan Bowman committed to major changes firing head coach Kris Knoblauch.
Now, the Edmonton Oilers have begun their search for their next head coach with many candidates being linked to come out West.
Tonight, a new name was thrown into the mix by NHL reporter and analyst Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal.
Edmonton Oilers linked to Patrick Roy for open head coach position
In a new post on X, Matheson speculated that one coaching candidate the Oilers should and potentially will interview is Patrick Roy.
One coach Oilers should talk to is Patrick Roy
Roy most recently spent time as the head coach of the New York Islanders and previously coached Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche both with limited regular season success.
However, in between those two stops Roy was the head coach of the Quebec Remparts where he was consistently competing for championships in the QMJHL.
Roy would bring a drastically different play and coaching style to the Oilers and like give a jolt to the locker room culture that seems desperately needed.
As the Oilers continue their search for a head coach, it will be fun to see if Roy is given an interview and becomes a finalist or if he is denied an opportunity to prove his worth.
