As the offseason approaches NHL analyst Allan Mitchell has suggested the idea that the Edmonton Oilers will trade defenseman Darnell Nurse this summer.
The Edmonton Oilers head into the 2026 offseason full of disappointment after yet another playoff failure this time in the first round against the Anaheim Ducks.
With the loss, the Oilers are looking to re-group and re-tool their roster with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl hoping for major cultural changes.
The failure of this group will almost certainly lead to large roster turnover and now NHL analyst Allan Mitchell has floated the idea of the Oilers moving on from Darnell Nurse.
NHL analyst suggests the Edmonton Oilers should move on from Darnell Nurse
In a new discussion, Mitchell discussed the idea that the Oilers should trade Nurse for either a goaltender or depth scoring to support McDavid and Draisaitl.
Allan Mitchell suggested Darnell Nurse could be used in a package deal to acquire a goaltender or a veteran goal scorer to replace Jack Roslovic.
Nurse has been a highly controversial player in Edmonton over the last several seasons especially this year racking up over 100 penalty minutes and was a severe liability defensively.
At 31 Nurse’s best days of his career are likely behind him and despite playing every game of his 798 game career with the Oilers his time in Edmonton seems to be running out.
As the offseason gets underway, it will be interesting to see how the Oilers attack improving their massive needs on defense.
Once more news is available regarding Nurse’s future in Edmonton and beyond we will pass that news along to you.
