Edmonton Oilers superstar captain Connor McDavid can soon become a UFA, but there is a chance that an extension could soon be signed, per the 2 Mutts Podcast. The most important matter of business for Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman is a contract extension for superstar captain Connor McDavid, who has a year left on his current contract before he can become a UFA next July 1. McDavid, who will play for Canada in the 2026 Winter Milan Olympics, was naturally among the players invited to Canada's Orientation Camp scheduled for late August in Calgary. Per The 2 Mutts Podcast, it is during that camp that McDavid could potentially sign a new extension with the Oilers, though it won't be a long-term deal. We are hearing that the contract extension for Connor McDavid will most likely happen after the Team Canada Orientation Camp which is August 26th to the 28th in Calgary. The plan is to announce the contract extension before the Captain Skates begin & Training Camp starts. We believe it could be a 2 year deal or a 4 year deal as the @EdmontonOilers already know McDavid won't be signing an 8 year extension this time around. The conversation on AAV has gone from $16M to around $17.5M from what we've been told.

Loading from Twitter ...

McDavid currently makes an AAV (average annual value) of $12 million on the deal he signed in July of 2017.
Connor McDavid Enjoying Time Off Before Taking Care Of Business
In the days after Edmonton's 2nd straight loss in the SCF to the Florida Panthers, McDavid didn't exactly sound like he was rushing into a new contract extension. He said that he will do what he believes is best for himself and his family, which worried Oilers fans. We're all in this together, trying to get it over that finish line. But with that being said, I still need to do what's best for me and my family. McDavid could become the highest-profile UFA in NHL history next summer if contract talks were to fall through with the Oilers.
