With the NHL offseason officially underway, the Edmonton Oilers have quickly gotten to work toward extending some of their top free agents.

The biggest question mark this summer for the Edmonton Oilers remains the contract negotiations with Connor McDavid.
As McDavid enters the final year of his contract, the Oilers have several other impending free agents that at least for now will take priority.
Connor Brown, Corey Perry, and Trent Frederic are all on expiring deals with the organization hoping to bring back all three players.
Earlier this week, reports indicated that Frederic had agreed in principle to an extension but it has not been finalized.
This evening, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period gave an update on those negotiations as well as the Oilers' plans with Perry and Brown.

Edmonton Oilers Expected To Make A Big Push To Re-Sign A Trio Of Forwards

A new write up today from NHL insider David Pagnotta confirmed that Trent Frederic and the Oilers are still working out the final details on his extension.
According to TFP's David Pagnotta, there is still some fine tuning to do on his next contract, but an announcement is expected to be made in the coming days, likely next week. Frederic's new deal is expected to hover around $3.75 million, per year.

On top of clarifying this situation, Pagnotta also confirmed that the extensions of Connor Brown and Corey Perry will be the team's next priority.
In addition to Frederic, the Oilers are also trying to get forwards Corey Perry and Connor Brown signed to new deals, as well as restricted free agent defenceman Evan Bouchard - though the club's pending unrestricted free agents currently take priority.
This priority list also means that the Edmonton Oilers could be playing a dangerous game potentially leaving Evan Bouchard open to an offer sheet if the negotiations with Brown and Perry drag on too long.
Hopefully, these extensions get wrapped up nice and quick which would then allow Stan Bowman and the front office to get Bouchard locked up as a well before shifting focus to McDavid.
The NHL Free Agency just a couple of weeks away we will continue to provide the latest details regarding these negotiations and the changes Stan Bowman could look to make.
