The Edmonton Oilers have dealt with some brutal injuries over the past few weeks, and now we've got an update on Stuart Skinner ahead of the playoffs. Over the last few weeks, the Edmonton Oilers have seen Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Stuart Skinner all go down with injury, with their two superstar skaters thankfully expected back before the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We haven't heard quite as much on Skinner before now however, but on Friday, renowned Oilers reporter Jason Gregor gave the latest update, and it's neither highly positive or negative for Edmonton. My source tells me that Stuart Skinner has skated but we don't know the extent of his skates or the date of his return. Pickard's had a great year but if Skinner is healthy he will be the starter come Playoff time

At this point in time, he can confirm that the Oilers starting net minder has begun skating again, but he could not confirm how intense the skates have been and how close he is to return. In his absence, Calvin Pickard has performed well in four games, posting a .909 save percentage or above in three of them, but if the Oilers want to be considered a genuine Stanley Cup contender, they'll need Skinner healthy and in the net. While Skinner himself has an .894 save percentage on the year, he's also allowing just a 2.91 GAA on the season, and after getting key experience a year ago, this is the goaltender that give Edmonton the best chance down the stretch. As of right now however, there's very little to go off beyond Gregor's comments, but with the Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning in less than three weeks, expect him to ramp up his recovery as he looks to get healthy for perhaps the most important post-season run in recent Edmonton Oilers history.
