A recent report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that Connor McDavid's tenure with the Edmonton Oilers could already be coming to an end.

The Edmonton Oilers 2025-26 season was an absolute disaster in the eyes of almost everyone in the hockey world after their first round exit.
Following the loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl both spoke out condemning the organization for an unacceptable season.
Despite this frustration, the future still seemed bright in Edmonton with both McDavid and Draisaitl under contract for next season giving Stan Bowman and the front office one more chance to get things right.
However, a new report from Frank Seravalli seems to indicate McDavid's tenure could be done with the Oilers already before the final season of his contract begins.

Frank Seravalli hints at Connor McDavid's tenure in Edmonton being over

In a new appearance on Flames Talk, Seravalli spoke about the idea that McDavid contract has always essentially been considering a one year deal with an option for year two and beyond with an extension.
With the Oilers' failure this season, Seravalli believes that McDavid could have lost faith in the organization and refuse to sign any extensions.
This would then lead Stan Bowman and the front office to have to consider trading McDavid.
That two year deal isn't really a two year deal, it's a one year deal...then you reach the question of are you extending...if the answer is I don't know, I don't know how they have any other choice but to try and trade him - Frank Seravalli
While Bowman and the Oilers organization could bet on themselves to win next season and convince McDavid to stay that is a massive risk.
However, trading away McDavid also comes with risk that the return is not enough and McDavid then goes on to win elsewhere.
With the offseason around the corner, the Oilers find themselves in between a rock and a hard place with very few ways out.
As the draft approaches, it will be interesting to see if McDavid reports increase and how Stan Bowman plans out the most important offseason of his Oilers tenure.
