Tonight, a new report from Oilers insider Jason Gregor has given an update on Leon Draisaitl’s injury and his return timeline.
The Edmonton Oilers continue their fight for the Stanley Cup Playoffs without Leon Draisaitl who last played March 15th.
At the time of the injury, it was confirmed to be a knee injury but the exact severity of the injury itself was relatively unknown.
Now, Gregor has confirmed both the severity of Draisaitl’s initial injury and how that has impacted his return timeline.
Jason Gregor update Leon Draisaitl’s severity and return timeline
In a new report, Gregor was able to confirm that Draisaitl is dealing with a knee injury but many had speculated a grade one knee sprain but Gregor believes it is a tier two problem.
It’s a knee issue, my understanding is that it is a second grade MCL issue.
Even with this development, Gregor is still confident in the idea that Draisaitl will be back for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
They still believe he will be ready to roll for the playoffs.
While this statement overall is reassuring the fact that Draisaitl went from certainly being back for the playoffs to there being a belief he will be back is a subtle worry.
If Draisaitl does miss any playoff action they will need some unexpected names to step up and prove their worth to support Connor McDavid who will have to be the best player on the ice in every game to make up for the gaps.
Currently, the Oilers sit second in the Pacific Division but have struggled without Draisaitl on special teams which could be a major issue if he misses any playoff games.
As more information is provided on Draisaitl’s injury and return to the Oilers’ lineup we will pass that news along to you.
