New Report Confirms A Deal Between The Oilers And Hurricanes For Mikko Rantanen Fell Apart At The Last Minute
This afternoon a new report has confirmed that the Edmonton Oilers were on the verge of trading for Mikko Rantanen before things fell apart.
Yesterday the Carolina Hurricanes traded Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars after working all day to move him.
The trade involving Rantanen came just a couple of months after the Hurricanes acquired him from the Colorado Avalanche.
Without an extension agreed to the Hurricanes wanted to move in a new direction and get what they could for Rantanen while sending him somewhere he would sign.
During the process reports had indicated that the Edmonton Oilers were one of the teams interested in Rantanen but how far along talks got was never made public.
This afternoon that all changed when TSN reporter Ryan Rishaug revealed the Oilers were on the verge of landing Rantanen when everything suddenly crumbled to the ground.
Reporter Confirms The Oilers Nearly Traded For Mikko Rantanen before things
According to Rishaug, Rantanen was willing to re-sign with the Oilers if a trade was agreed to between the two teams.
However, it seems that Stan Bowman and the Oilers just could not provide the same trade assets that the Dallas Stars ultimately gave up.
With this failed trade the Oilers struck out on deadline day making their last move the day before with the trade for Jake Walman.
Instead, the Oilers will now have to face Rantanen tonight as he debuts for the Dallas Stars.
Now that this report is out there it will be interesting to see if Stan Bowman and the front office have a response to what went wrong during negotiations and why a deal was not struck.
