Tonight, new reports have confirmed that the NHLPA had requested an investigation be opened regarding Mike Babcock's misconduct that led to his firing from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Over the last several days, the Edmonton Oilers have reportedly been seriously interested in hiring Mike Babcock as their next head coach.
Despite interest from both parties, the hiring has been held up due to a consultation done by the NHLPA into misconduct related to Babcock's last job with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Now, with the NHLPA's consultation complete, they have asked the NHL and Gary Bettman to launch a full scale investigation.

According to a report from NHL insider Darren Dreger, the NHLPA has asked the NHL to conduct a full scale investigation.
The NHLPA has asked the NHL to move forward with an investigation into the allegations Mike Babcock invaded players privacy during his time in Columbus.
This means any hiring involving Babcock will be heavily delayed if it is allowed at all.
This is now the second candidate that the Oilers were hoping to hire that has been put on hold after former Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy was not given permission to interview with the Oilers.
If the Babcock investigation rules him ineligible then the Oilers will have to scramble to find their next head coach in short order before the NHL Draft in just a few weeks.
As more reports surface regarding Mike Babcock's eligibility and the Edmonton Oilers' pursuit of him we will pass along the latest news to you.
