Gene Principe says Leon Draisaitl is out Tuesday, and the Edmonton Oilers just lost a 35-62-97 engine with $14 million reasons to slow down.

Principe delivered the news, then Kris Knoblauch added the line that matters most, Edmonton will know more tonight or Wednesday. That is not soft injury language, that is a coach leaving the door open to a bigger concern.
Draisaitl is not trade noise or cap fluff. He is in year one of his eight-year, $112 million extension, and Edmonton built this season around his ability to drive his own line and still tilt the power play.
That is the roster angle casual coverage misses. When Draisaitl sits, Connor McDavid gets easier to load up on, and Edmonton's center depth starts looking thin in a hurry.
The Oilers enter Tuesday at 33-26-9, third in the Pacific. That gives them enough cushion to be careful, but not enough to shrug off missing their second matchup breaker.
"Draisaitl wont play tonight and we will know more on his timeline tonight or tomorrow."

- Kris Knoblauch
The fit problem is simple hockey. Draisaitl is Edmonton's left-shot release valve, its bumper brain on the man advantage, and the forward who makes defensive coverage crack when McDavid pulls the weak side open.
Without him, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins likely gets more middle-ice touches, but the attack loses weight and the power play loses one of its most feared seams.

Leon Draisaitl puts the Edmonton Oilers structure at risk

Oilers fans can live with one missed game, but the word timeline changes the mood fast.
If Edmonton has to protect Draisaitl for longer than one night, every line gets harder, every matchup gets cleaner for opponents, and Tuesday against San Jose becomes a test of support scoring.
The next checkpoint is not panic. It is whether Knoblauch's Wednesday update keeps this precautionary, or turns it into the story that shapes Edmonton's stretch drive.
