The Oilers blew another game they were leading and lost, with Evan Bouchard once again making costly mistakes, which had Kris Knoblauch seeing red afterward.

Following an October of ghastly mistakes, the Oilers' Halloween Eve matchup turned into a horror show of their own making. Up 3-1, Edmonton found a way to unravel once more, falling 4-3 to the New York Rangers in overtime.
The nightmare began when Evan Bouchard's failed D-to-D pass gifted Jonny Brodzinski a breakaway goal. Later, Jake Walman turned the puck over at the Rangers' blue line, sparking Braden Schneider's tally.
Minutes after that, Bouchard coughed up another puck that led directly to Taylor Raddysh's game-tying goal. In overtime, J.T. Miller capped the collapse by going end-to-end past Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to seal the Rangers' comeback.
Although the Oilers didn't play a dreadful overall game, self-inflicted wounds once again proved to be their undoing.
Post-game, head coach Kris Knoblauch was asked about whether Bouchard could face a reduced role, something he has rarely resorted to since taking over behind the bench.
"We gotta hold all our players accountable, and there's a fine line on mistakes that periodically happen, because no player is going to play a perfect game and there's always going to be a mistake," said Knoblauch. "But if there's accumulation of mistakes that are costing us regularly, then yes, we need to hold everyone accountable."

Kris Knoblauch recently benched Darnell Nurse, and it paid off

Still, he's shown a willingness to send messages when necessary, as seen recently when Darnell Nurse sat for several shifts before bouncing back with a two-goal effort against Utah.
"With Evan, you know, sometimes your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness, and you have a great talent in making passes and feeling confident that you can do that, but when it's not working, it's costing with chances against," he said.

"Usually, when turnovers are happening, a lot of times it's not moving your feet.

"You're standing still, you're making a pass where very rarely do I see any player, especially Evan, when he's moving his feet, he's opening up lanes. Then passes are usually made, but when they're stationary and you're locked in one spot, it's a pretty fine line to execute a hard pass."

Beyond the individual miscues, the broader issue for Edmonton has been sustaining its structure through a full 60 minutes.
The Oilers, 5-5-3 on the season, look to exorcise some demons as they host the 5-4-2 Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday before embarking on a two-game road swing through St. Louis and Dallas.
