Tonight, a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has given an update on the Edmonton Oilers' pursuit of Bruce Cassidy as the organization's next head coach.

The Edmonton Oilers suffered an embarrassing loss in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Anaheim Ducks, leading to major changes in the organization.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch was fired with both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl calling for a major overhaul of the culture of the organization as a whole.
Since then, the Edmonton Oilers have conducted an exhaustive search for their next head coach, with former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy becoming the frontrunner for the position.
However, with the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Oilers will need to wait for the series to conclude before Vegas will permit them to interview Cassidy.
At one point, the Oilers were expected to wait and still interview Cassidy, but a new report from Elliotte Friedman has suggested that the situation has changed.

According to his sources, Elliotte Friedman believes the Oilers are no longer willing to wait for Cassidy to become available and are now expected to move on to other candidates instead.
I thought that they were going to wait for Cassidy, I'm starting to get some signal that maybe they won't.
With Cassidy now out of the picture, the number of experienced candidates that the Oilers could go with is a very small pool that includes names like Peter Laviolette and DJ Smith.
Neither of these candidates inspires great confidence of being able to take the Oilers to new heights, which means Stan Bowman and the Oilers could look to bring in an inexperienced candidate instead.
As more information is provided on the Oilers' head coaching search, we will bring all of the latest details to you.
