Insider Believes Connor McDavid Will Not Finish His Career in Edmonton for One Specific Reason

The Edmonton Oilers led by Stan Bowman and Connor McDavid represented by Judd Moldaver continue to negotiate what is expected to be the largest contract in NHL history once completed.

Throughout the process speculation has continued to build regarding whether or not McDavid will end up re-signing in Edmonton or land that contract with another franchise entirely.

Tonight, ESPN reporter and insider Greg Wyshynski has indicated he expects McDavid to eventually leave the Oilers due to their roster construction.

In a recent segment on the Big Show, Wyshynski indicated that he believes McDavid will sign a short term extension with the Oilers to continue chasing a Stanley Cup.

However, after that he believes McDavid will chase a new opportunity with a team better set up for the future.

Despite having Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, and other key pieces locked up long-term Wyshynski isn't convinced that will be enough to keep McDavid satisfied in Edmonton.

While Wyshynski doesn't mention any teams specifically it isn't hard to imagine the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Boston Bruins, all storied franchises with young cores as teams of interest if McDavid moves elsewhere.

For now, the focus for Stan Bowman and the Oilers remains on bring back McDavid on whatever contract they possibly can.

If they do sign him short-term the threat of Wyshynski's prediction coming true becomes an imminent threat.
