In a new interview, former Edmonton Oilers forward Connor Brown revealed the key reasons he left in free agency to sign with the New Jersey Devils. The Edmonton Oilers lost several key pieces of their Stanley Cup Final group this summer due to free agency and trades. One of those players who decided to move in a new direction was Connor Brown who signed a multi-year deal with the New Jersey Devils.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Since signing with the Devils Brown had not opened up about the factors that led to his decision. This evening, that all changed when Brown spoke to the media and gave two specific reasons he left the Edmonton Oilers.
Connor Brown Reveals The Main Reasons He Left The Edmonton Oilers
During an introductory press conference, Brown was asked about his reasons for signing with the New Jersey Devils. Brown confirmed that the main factor was the team's skill and potential to compete for a Stanley Cup. It was a balancing act to narrow down the places I wanted to be. I mean, ultimately, I would say the main factor is the skill of the team and the direction of the team. I think the team is in a position to get better and better over my term, and I anticipate some good playoff runs and things like that. Brown then admitted that being closer to his family in Ontario was also a main factor. There are other things that go into it. The East Coast is closer to our family. We got a little guy, so to be able to have family visit him a little bit easier and things like that. Last season, Brown tallied 30 points in 82 games with the Oilers in mostly a third line role. With this decision now made, Brown heads back out East where he began his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs followed by the Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals before signing in Edmonton.
