Connor McDavid tied Patrick Kane, and the Edmonton Oilers suddenly have a live Game 6 problem for Anaheim.
McDavid's two assists in Edmonton's 4-1 Game 5 win did more than keep the Oilers breathing.
They tied him with Patrick Kane at 25 points in playoff elimination games.
Game 6 is no longer just another road test.
It is a chance for McDavid to own the record outright and drag the series back to Edmonton.
The Oilers finished the regular season 41-30-11, then walked into this first round looking strangely vulnerable.
McDavid's 2025-26 season was ridiculous, with 48-90-138 in 82 games.
His playoff line now sits at 1-5-6 through five games, but the eye test has been uneven.
The record is sitting right there for him.
Justin Lynch reported that McDavid's two assists tied Kane for the most points in playoff elimination games, at 25 total.
"McDavid made history last night as he recorded two assists in the Oilers win. Those two points were good enough to tie Patrick Kane for the most points from a player in playoff elimination games at 25 total. If McDavid were to record a point in tomorrow’s game that would give him the record outright."

Connor McDavid Puts Edmonton Oilers Pressure On Anaheim
Fans are excited, but there is still tension because Edmonton needed its best player to play through real doubt.
McDavid was a game-time decision before Game 5, then still logged heavy minutes and fed Leon Draisaitl twice.
When McDavid attacks off speed and Draisaitl finds soft ice, Anaheim's blue line has to collapse inside.
That opens the weak side and forces the Ducks to choose between protecting the slot or chasing the puck.
If McDavid scores or assists Thursday, the record becomes his, but the bigger message hits Anaheim's bench.
Edmonton's top-six can still flip a series in one period.
The man advantage and penalty kill still need cleaner details, but star pressure changes matchups fast.
Game 6 now becomes less about history and more about whether Anaheim can survive McDavid's next push.
