Today the Edmonton Oilers have infuriated their fans after a skills competition meant to be a fan appreciation event was missing several big-name players. The Edmonton Oilers have continued their success from last season's Stanley Cup Finals run finding themselves tied for first in the Pacific Division. Despite their success so far this season the Oilers fans are irate today after the team ruined a fun skills competition event by holding out several players. With the 4 Nations Face Off Tournament set to kick off in just 10 days the NHL is about to go on a long break in action. As a result the Oilers were looking to give their fans something fun ahead of that break to soften the blow of missing out on Oilers games for a couple of weeks. The skills competition was set to take place at Rogers Place with stars like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, and Mattias Ekholm participating in events. Today fans were let down when the Oilers made the decision to hold out some of the biggest stars from this sold out fan event.
Edmonton Oilers Under Fire After Holding Stars Out Of Skills Competition
Fans arrived to Rogers Place expecting to see McDavid, Draisaitl and all of their teammates on the ice showing off for the Oilers faithful. Instead, as the Oilers took the ice Connor McDavid, Mattias Ekholm, and Mattias Janmark were nowhere to be seen along with Corey Perry being in attendance but not participating.

The let down of the fans became incredibly evident as the Oilers were torn apart on social media by Oilers fans.

According to reports from within the Oilers organization all of the players who missed today's events are dealing with an illness that has been making its way through the Oilers locker room this week.

While these players are sick it is still frustrating that an event aimed at fans that likely cannot afford tickets to normal games or do not have the ability to attend regular games was turned into a let down. Hopefully those in attendance still were able to see some of their favorite players and Draisaitl, Bouchard, and many others still did take the ice.
