Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers have assigned former second-round pick Beau Akey to the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL causing concern for his career. The Edmonton Oilers are undergoing a youth movement with multiple young players and rookies making their debut for the team. Unfortunately, along with those players doing well are also players who are struggling and at the forefront of that category is Beau Akey. Akey has really struggled with injuries having his 2023-24 season cut short and then dealing with injuries to begin this season delaying his debut in the AHL. Akey has dealt with shoulder injuries for multiple years dating back to just after he was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers.

Loading from Twitter ...

Now, reports have confirmed that Akey's AHL debut will have to wait as he has been assigned to the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL.
Beau Akey's Career Takes a Concerning Turn After Injury Problems
According to those sources, Akey is finally healthy but the front office does not believe he is ready for the AHL.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Akey, 20, still has plenty of time to bounce back and get his career on track but he needs to stay on the ice. At his best, Akey is fast and an incredibly good puck mover that can run a power play or just be a breakout machine at five on five if needed. The biggest key for Akey will be to stay on the ice and healthy or he risks being written off by the organization entirely in the near future. As more reports come out regarding Akey's future with the Oilers and beyond we will pass those notes along to you.
