Tonight the Edmonton Oilers have been linked in a potential blockbuster trade to land Dylan Larkin to fill an unusual role.
Earlier this week reports emerged confirming that Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin had requested a trade away from the team.
Larkin has been with the organization since being drafted in the first round in 2014 but a deteriorating relationship with GM Steve Yzerman has reportedly led Larkin to prefer a new home.
Since the news broke, several teams have been mentioned as a potential fit for Larkin but mostly teams with an obvious need at the center position.
Today, a new source has linked Larkin to the Edmonton Oilers but as a winger instead of a center.
Dylan Larkin linked to the Edmonton Oilers to fill unexpected role
While Larkin is a natural center one source believes he would fit best with the Edmonton Oilers on the wing.
The Oilers of course have Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl down the middle but have struggled to find players to go alongside either superstar.
Larkin's speed and versatility would be an incredible fit to go with McDavid especially who loves pushing the pace. Everyone says the Oilers already have McDavid and Draisaitl at centre. Fine. Put Dylan Larkin on McDavid's wing and let the rest of the NHL try to keep up with that speed.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Steve Yzerman will give in to Larkin's request and trade him or if he will try and keep his captain in town and work things out.
If Larkin is moved, look for the Oilers to be an early favorite to land him if he is willing to play the wing.
As more information is provided on Larkin's future in Detroit and beyond we will pass that news along to you.
