Tonight, a new report has indicated that the Edmonton Oilers are likely expected to part ways with franchise legend and assistant coach Paul Coffey. The Edmonton Oilers continue to re-shape their lineup for next season after falling just short in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers. During the Stanley Cup Finals, the Oilers' defensive unit and goaltending were two clear areas of weakness when playing elite competition. After the season ended, the Oilers parted ways with goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz.

Loading from Twitter ...

At the time, this was expected to be the only coaching change but now a new report indicates that assistant coach Paul Coffey is also likely on his way out.

Loading from Twitter ...

Coffey has been a key part of the Oilers coaching staff the last several seasons with a focus on the defensive unit. Despite being part of the staff that led the Oilers to a pair of Stanley Cup Finals appearances it seems Coffey's time in Edmonton is coming to an end. Prior to becoming a coach Coffey spent 7 of his 21 NHL seasons with the Oilers as a player becoming one of the best defensemen in franchise history. He then joined the Oilers coaching staff in 2022-23 nearly 40 years after making his debut as a player with the organization. At this time it is unclear who head coach Kris Knoblauch plans to potentially replace Coffey with or why the move has yet to be made and announced. As more information is provided on the expected staff changes for the Edmonton Oilers we will pass along all of the latest news.
