Per analyst David Staples, the Edmonton Oilers could potentially be thinking of using the Long Term Injured Reserve loophole for injured forward Zach Hyman, who was hurt in the SCF. The Edmonton Oilers lost in the Stanley Cup Final for the 2nd year in a row to the Florida Panthers, but they were also playing shorthanded because of the season-ending injury to Zach Hyman. Hyman was hurt during the Oilers' WCF victory over the Dallas Stars, and was immediately ruled out for the rest of the year after a hit from Stars forward Mason Marchment dislocated his wrist and also tore multiple ligaments. One NHL analyst believes that the Oilers could use the controversial Long Term Injured Reserve loophole for salary cap relief that has infamously been employed by the divisional foe Vegas Golden Knights in years past with Hyman, while also referencing the possibility that the Panthers could do the same with Matthew Tkachuk. David Staples of the Edmonton Journal said as much while also saying he isn't sure of the severity of Hyman's injury. Final year of the NHL's LTIR fraud will see players like Tkachuk sit out first half of the year, then be replaced by other players nursing injuries on LTIR & resting up for playoffs. Possible that Oilers will do the same with Zach Hyman? Not sure of severity of his injury.

Loading from Twitter ...

The Oilers will open the new year on October 8 against the Calgary Flames.
Zach Hyman Opens Up After Serious Season Ending Injury
NHL players are notorious for fighting through injury troubles in the postseason. Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk played through a sports hernia and a torn adductor, while in years past, Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron played through a broken rib, a separated right shoulder, and a punctured left lung. But Hyman's injury made it impossible to hold his stick, and it was something he immediately knew he'd not be able to play through. I knew it wasn't good when I got hit. Right away I felt my wrist go on me. When you're a player, you think there's a chance you can play through it. Not to go into the details, but I quickly realized that this was something that needed surgery, that I couldn't fight through. As training camp gets underway it will be interesting to see how the Oilers plan to handle Hyman's injury and recovery.
