Craig Button calling Edmonton Oilers goaltending “garbage” on SportsCentre feels like a gut punch in a playoff race.
It lands because the numbers have been loud for months.
Edmonton sits at 28-22-8, and it is still right in the Pacific mix.
The problem is the margin keeps getting eaten by goals against.
The Oilers have scored 198, but they have also given up 194.
Thursday’s 4-3 loss to Calgary only poured gas on it.
Button said the quiet part out loud, and fans clipped it for a reason.
Tristan Jarry has a .870 save percent across 11 games with the Oilers since arriving from the Penguins.
Stuart Skinner had a .891 save percentage across 23 games with Edmonton prior to his departure.
Calvin Pickard sits at .871, and that is not survivable every night.
And finally, Connor Ingram has a .897 save percentage in his 13 Oilers games.
Craig Button just raised the Edmonton Oilers temperature
Honestly, this is the part where Oilers fans start doom scrolling and refreshing trade rumors.
Edmonton already tried to patch it, with Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry both showing up in the crease mix.
Even with the carousel, the team save percentage is sitting at .884.
That turns every odd-man rush into a “please no” moment.
It also changes how the blue line plays, backing off instead of holding gaps.
If the Oilers want a real spring, the next stretch has to look calmer between the pipes, not just louder on the scoreboard.
