If things go the way they're supposed to for the Oilers tonight in Game 2, not only will they skate away with a win, but Connor McDavid will make some history.

Some players are simply meant to make history. The Edmonton Oilers have had their share, with Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky, to name a couple. And now, it's Connor McDavid carrying on the tradition.
In case you've somehow remained unaware of McDavid, you've definitely seen his impact now. The Oilers' captain is a force on the ice, with passes that leave jaws dropped and an unbelievable goal-scoring ability.

McDavid needs just one point tonight to become part of NHL history

Now, he's setting up for yet another major milestone. McDavid is a single point away from hitting 20 points in this year's playoffs, a mark he has achieved in each of the last three playoffs.
If he does so again, he will become only the fourth player in NHL history to record 20+ points in four straight playoff runs. That elite group consists of Sergei Fedorov (1995-98), along with Islanders greats Bryan Trottier and Mike Bossy (1980-83).
Four consecutive 20-point playoff seasons would tie the longest such stretch in NHL history. Not even Wayne Gretzky, who many call the greatest player to ever play in the NHL, was able to accomplish that feat.
We may witness some history unfold tonight with McDavid. His playoff performance has been nothing short of elite. Last season alone, he broke Wayne Gretzky's record for most assists in a single playoff season.
Gretzky's 1988 mark of 31 assists stood for decades, until McDavid had 33. In the previous three playoffs before this one, McDavid accumulated 33, 20, and 42 points.
He currently stands at 19 points, poised for yet another record. History is within grasp, once more for the Oilers' great.
