Connor McDavid Breaks His Silence on Controversial Hit That Sparked Public Outrage
Oilers' Connor McDavid was at the center of a controversial hit on Wild forward Marcus Johansson that sparked outrage, and the captain has broken his silence.
Connor McDavid enjoyed three points, two of them goals, and was brilliant once again in Wednesday night's game between his Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota Wild. But greatness immediately took a back seat to a tainted moment.
McDavid gave Marcus Johansson a high elbow to the head. All but squarely worthy of suspension, many experts said. Johansson had to leave with an upper-body injury and was not penalized, nor was McDavid after officials reviewed the play.
The Wild head coach, John Hynes, wouldn't discuss the hit but aired his frustration when there's no accountability.
«I don't even want to go down that road, because it will probably infuriate you more than it infuriates me right now. So I am just going to bypass that. Similar to the other game, not a good answer. Let me put it that way.»

Connor McDavid calls the incident "unfortunate"
McDavid termed it "unfortunate" and an accident in a post-game interview with TNT. He hoped Johansson was okay.
"Look, it's unfortunate, and I hope he is okay, obviously not trying to hurt anybody out there, just try to go through there. Very unfortunate, and I hope he is alright."

This now opens a debate as to whether or not star players get special treatment in this league.
«What do you think happens? I understand the refs have a hard job,but that was chicken. I don't care that he's the best player in the world.»

Sure, they are dazzle-to-watch and all that, but this does seem immeasurably unfair when those very acts put other players out of commission.
