Sean Higgins' potential prison time is announced following arrest
The driver, Sean Higgins, involved in the incident that injured Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, has been taken into custody and formally charged.
According to journalist Mark Schieg, the driver, Sean Higgins, has been charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, a sentence for each between 10 and 20 years, therefore up to 40 years total, and in addition to prison time, fines could be levied to as much as $200,000 for each life lost, totaling $400,000.
As Charles-Alexis Brisebois underlines below, it is truly a tragedy, which was also a completely preventable one. It reminds us that driving while under the influence is never OK, especially when other safer alternatives are available, like taking a taxi, a ride-sharing program, or having a friend drive.
«After all, even though drunk driving is a scourge that is taken more seriously than before, it remains something that can easily be avoided but isn't always.
The message we must take from all of this is that there are solutions instead of driving while intoxicated.»

This needs to be a wake-up call for all of us to make sure we are making responsible choices.
