The Avalanche have made a bold decision and waived young netminder Trent Miner, which was first reported today by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. The Colorado Avalanche wasted no time in surprising the hockey world today by waiving promising young goaltender Trent Miner, which was first reported by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

Loading from Twitter ...

The move comes shortly after it was announced that fellow netminder Mackenzie Blackwood will be dressing for the Avalanche for the first time this season on Tuesday night. He will be backing up Scott Wedgewood as the team faces the New Jersey Devils. Blackwood briefly spent time with the Avs' American Hockey League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, on a conditioning loan to tone his skills. Miner stopped 20 of the 24 shots he faced during Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils. All things considered, the 24-year-old did alright being thrown in the lion's den in his first NHL start this season.
Trent Miner went a perfect 20-for-20 in his relief appearance against Carolina
He stopped all 20 shots he faced in relief against the Hurricanes on October 23rd, though the Avalanche lost in a shootout. His next game against the Devils didn't begin great, though, as he allowed two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, but he did enough to get the Avalanche to overtime and earn a point against the league-leading Devils. In his two games played this season, Miner had a 2.12 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage, and in four career NHL appearances, he has a record of 1-0-2, with a .234 GAA and a .896 SV%. It remains to be seen whether or not the young Miner will ever get another start with the Avalanche, or whether he will get claimed by another organization.
