Flames' Nazem Kadri was asked about his teammate Rasmus Andersson's future with the team, and as uncertainty lingers, Western rival teams could look to pounce.

Nazem Kadri spoke with The Athletic's Julian McKenzie ahead of the Hockey Diversity Alliance's inaugural "Summer Fest," which takes place Saturday in Toronto.
Billed by the HDA as the "world's largest youth BIPOC road hockey tournament," the event will host 250 children from underrepresented communities across the Greater Toronto Area.
Nazem Kadri will be joined by other HDA members, including founder Akim Aliu, retired NHL winger Wayne Simmonds, and Islanders winger Anthony Duclair.
Also scheduled to make an appearance are NFL alumni and social activists Colin Kaepernick and Marshawn Lynch, adding more star power to the festivities at Canoe Landing Park.
While Kadri's focus this weekend will be on growing the game, back in Calgary, another storyline is brewing.
Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson has been at the center of trade speculation as he enters the final year of his six-year, $27.3 million contract.

Rasmus Andersson will be a UFA at the end of Next Season if Unsigned

The 28-year-old Swede could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if no extension is reached.
Rasmus Andersson tallied 11 goals and 31 points in 81 games last season and has 47 goals and 231 points in 536 career NHL games, all with Calgary.
Andersson has the Vegas Golden Knights atop his trade wish list, according to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun. Kadri, however, made a point of saying he'd like Andersson to remain in Calgary.
"Obviously, that's between him and the team. That's their business," Kadri said. "But for me, (Rasmus) is a great player. He's a great friend. I'd love to see him stick around. But at the end of the day I think every player has faced, at some point in their career, a big decision they've got to make. I think he's at that point now.

"Obviously, I'd love to continue to have him on my team. He's one of our top defensemen, of course. He's been a long-time Flame. He's spent a lot of time out in Calgary. I know he enjoys the city. It's between them now. I expect to see him, obviously, at training camp, and I'm sure he'll be ready to go."

If negotiations fail, don't be surprised if Calgary's rivals, such as Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vancouver, all try to make a move and pry the Swede away from the Flames.
