Jeremy Swayman called out the Boston Bruins bench, and Game 5 now feels like a referendum on their standard.
This was not random heat from a goalie losing control.
It was a pressure release after Boston got smoked 6-1 by the Buffalo Sabres in Game 4, falling behind 3-1 in the series.
Swayman got pulled after allowing six goals on 29 shots in 46:41. His playoff line now sits at 1-3 with a .900 save percentage.
The Bruins went 45-27-10 in the regular season, good enough to get here, not good enough to survive sloppy details now.
Swayman has finally explained the whole situation.
"We have an extremely high competitive group. We all have a standard that we all carry ourselves to and it wasn't met. So that was just emotion.
"It's moved on now and we have a job to do going into Buffalo."

His post-practice explanation mattered more than the clip.
Swayman called it emotion after Boston missed its own standard.
Jeremy Swayman Puts Boston Bruins Standard On Trial
Bruins fans are right to hear anger there, not panic.
Boston's issue was not one bad bounce. The blue line lost layers, the low slot opened, and Buffalo kept attacking second chances.
If Swayman is forced to be perfect, the Bruins are already playing Buffalo's game.
Game 5 decides whether this becomes a fiery reset or the first hard offseason question for Don Sweeney.
Swayman earned the room's attention with a 31-18-4 regular season, a 2.71 goals-against average, and a .908 save percentage.
Now the room has to answer him in Buffalo.
