Blake Wheeler and Kailer Yamamoto could likely receive PTO's from the Bruins
GM Don Sweeney of the Boston Bruins is considering offering former Bruin Blake Wheeler and Kailer Yamamoto a professional tryout (PTO). Not everyone likes this.
Blake Wheeler is 37-years-old and hinted that he could possibly be considering retirement after last season with the NY Rangers. Last year, he only managed to score nine goals in 54 games, and you can see that his age is starting to catch up with him. The thing with Wheeler is, if he is in good shape and avoid injuries, he could be a solid depth player that would provide leadership to the younger guys. Bruins fans would welcome him back with open arms, as he was once a member of the team, however there are others who are sceptical due to his age.
Kailer Yamamoto is still only 25-years-old and could have many years ahead of him, however in his time with the Seattle Kraken last season, he struggled and only scored eight goals and added eight assists in 59 games. He will definitely want to improve on those numbers. Perhaps the Bruins could use the PTO as a measuring stick to see if he's worthy of a contract.
This is a low-risk, high-reward situation for the Bruins. It costs the team nothing to offer a PTO and if it works out they can then negotiate a contract with the player or players.
