The NHL Department of Player Safety has come down hard on Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas after he injured Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews on Thursday night in Toronto.

Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas was given a game misconduct on Tuesday during their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after his collision with captain Auston Matthews in the second period.
Not only did Gudas get a five minute major, but he was tossed from the game, which automatically triggers a review from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety.
After a review, the NHL DPS has made their ruling, and Gudas is going to have to miss some time.
They announced that he has officially been suspended for the next five games.
The Maple Leafs have already announced that Matthews' injury is severe enough to keep him from playing for the rest of the season.

The Maple Leafs Announced That Matthews Will Miss The Rest Of The Season

Matthews, who underwent an MRI earlier today, was officially ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that captain Auston Matthews sustained a Grade 3 MCL tear and quad contusion on March 12 during the second period of the team's game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Matthews will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks. A further update will be provided at that time. He will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season. - Toronto Maple Leafs

He finishes the year with 53 points (27G, 26A); his goal on Thursday was his first in 12 games, dating back to before he helped Team USA win a gold medal late last month in Milan.
