Sidney Crosby injury anxiety just hit Team Canada, and the captain’s “C” could land on Connor McDavid for Friday’s Olympic semifinal.
Crosby is still being evaluated for a lower-body issue after he left Canada’s 4-3 overtime quarterfinal win over Czechia and didn’t return.
Canada plays Finland on Friday, and nobody seems ready to fully rule Sid out yet.
Here’s the key wrinkle, international rules require a captain for every game, so if Crosby can’t dress, someone has to wear the “C”.
That’s why this feels less like symbolism and more like procedure, with McDavid the obvious answer.
Crosby has 2-4-6 in four Olympic games, and Canada has been rolling with him driving the tone.
McDavid has been the engine too, including 1-2-3 in the 10-2 win over France, and he’s leading the tournament in scoring.
