Connor McDavid just set an Olympic men’s hockey record, and Team Canada can feel the gold pressure building.

He recorded his 12th point of Milano Cortina 2026 on Friday against Finland. That mark is now the most in a single Olympic tournament involving NHL players.
The play was simple and nasty. McDavid picked up the secondary assist on Sam Reinhart’s power-play goal, the kind of touch that barely shows up on replay but decides games.
He started the day tied at 11 points with Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu. One more point was all he needed to stand alone.
Now it’s 12, and it’s not slowing down. Frank Seravalli noted there were at least four more periods left for McDavid to add to it.
What stands out is how clean his production looks. No forcing, no cheating, just quick reads and pace that bends structure.
On the man advantage, he drags the penalty killers toward him. That opens the seam for a shooter like Reinhart, and Canada cashes.

Connor McDavid keeps Team Canada ahead of the chaos

You can feel the fanbase doing that nervous laugh right now, because records are fun, but everyone wants the one game that matters most.
Canada is leaning on him even harder with Sidney Crosby out of the semifinal. McDavid wearing the moment is part of the story too.
If the math holds, his line is basically a cheat code. Keep it simple, win the middle, and let his legs do the damage.
The scary part is the runway. A medal game still sits there, and the record can get loud fast.
Finland is not going away quietly. Canada will need the same calm execution that created that Reinhart power-play strike.
This tournament is finally giving McDavid the stage, and he’s playing like he waited a decade for it.
