Don Cherry Blasts Oilers For Firing Of Jay Woodcroft

Don Cherry Puts The Edmonton Oilers On Blast
The veteran hockey analyst could not explain why the team chose to fire Woodcroft at the time they did. While the team had been struggling mightily to that point in the season, the move came after the team won in remarkable comeback fashion against the Seattle kraken.
"Jay Woodcroft got fired after he won a game. That's what gets me, after they win a game."
The Oilers looked like they were going to drop another game in disappointing fashion before Evander Kane saved the season by forcing overtime and then scoring the OT winner.
Cherry Gives Thoughts On Oilers Adding Coffey To Coaching Staff
While Cherry was a bit harsh about the Oilers firing Woodcroft at the time they did, he did give them some credit for adding NHL legend Paul Coffey to the coaching staff.
"We both liked Coffey when he coached in Toronto. They changed lines good and all the shots from the point were low. You get a penalty against them and that's it, it was a goal. He was a good coach... he will be a good coach."
The team announced that Coffey would be joining the coaching staff at the same time as Woodcroft's replacement was introduced. Cherry is not the only one who thinks he will do a good job in Edmonton.
While the Oilers have improved their play significantly in their last couple of games, the team still has a lot of work to do to get into the playoff hunt. They currently sit 7th in the Pacific division with a 5-10-1 record.
